General Description
As a Teacher at Detroit Cristo Rey, and as adults, we are role models for our students. All employees are expected to dress and behave in a professional manner at all times, especially when in front of a student(s) and communicating with parents.
Full-time Teaching assignments encompass teaching six classes daily, administering one Duty period (study hall, lunch duty, assisting the Title One teacher, subbing for one period, etc.), and utilizing one assigned preparation period. Part-time teaching assignments range from 2-4, 50-minute classes. There may be a duty period required depending on the number of classes taught. The Teacher will collaborate with teachers of the same subject to ensure alignment and continuity of material, as well as with all other teachers for best practice sharing of techniques, technology use, and consistency of message regarding student expectation and success. The Teacher is expected to track and communicate student performance, suggest and support strategic initiatives to help increase the academic offerings and performance of the student body, as well as all other tasks and responsibilities as required. Teachers report to the Principal; however, they will meet with the Academic Assistant Principal and Dean of Students regularly throughout the school year. They will also work very closely with the Corporate Work Study team members to ensure a positive balance between work and school for each student. When required, the Teacher will also work with the School Counselor to ensure any student concerns that are not academic-related are communicated and addressed.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Prepare for each class (Annual plan, Unit plans, a syllabus, plan lessons, correct papers, conversations with parents & students)
- Submit weekly Lesson Plans
- Prepare and Lead Parent Teacher Conferences (3 times a year)
- Attend all Faculty Meetings
- Develop and Execute a Classroom Management Strategy – maintain discipline & a positive atmosphere in the classroom
- Learn and utilize the on-line grading system
- Offer an Extracurricular Activity
- Attend all required Fundraising Events
- Work one week of the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) Summer Training program in August
- Attend the morning assembly (starting at 7 : 15) and assist with the “check-in” of assigned students

5 : 00 - 6 : 00 Student workers return to school
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree minimum, in subject matter
Teacher’s Certification
Highly Qualified status preferred
Experience with High School Classroom environment (or equivalent)
Sensitivity to the ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the student body
Proficient in MS Office and experience with Student Database systems
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Effectively communicate with students, parents, school staff, and others in a calm and respectful manner at all times
