Assistant Fund Controller

Are you a meticulous finance professional with deep expertise in fund accounting and a passion for private equity? Join a leading investment firm that's driving growth in innovative software and tech-enabled businesses. This is a high-impact role where you'll be at the heart of fund operations, partnering with senior leadership and contributing to financial excellence across the organization.

About the Role

As the Assistant Fund Controller, you'll be a key player in the finance team, working closely with the Principal of Finance, CFO, fund administrators, and portfolio company stakeholders. This position is ideal for someone with a blend of public and private accounting experience-particularly in VC or PE environments-who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and review the work of outsourced fund administrators.
  • Maintain general ledgers and manage monthly close processes, including reconciliations of bank, intercompany, investment, and partners' capital accounts.
  • Prepare financial statements and quarterly investor reporting packages, including allocations and investment roll forwards.
  • Support quarterly valuations, annual audits, and tax-related reviews (K-1s, Forms 1042 / 8804, federal / state filings).
  • Manage capital calls and distributions.
  • Assist with SEC compliance and regulatory reporting.
  • Partner with FP& A on portfolio dashboards and strategic initiatives.

Team Environment

You'll join a lean, high-performing finance team that values collaboration, precision, and continuous improvement. The team includes :

  • CFO and Principal, Finance
  • Two Assistant Controllers
  • Corporate Finance Staff : Controller, Staff Accountant, Benefits / Payroll Manager
  • External Fund Administrator

    Requirements

    Ideal Candidate Profile

    We're looking for a finance professional with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate brings :

  • 4-7+ years of accounting experience, ideally a blend of Big 4 audit and in-house fund accounting.
  • Private equity or venture capital fund experience, including working with fund administrators and multiple external partners.
  • Familiarity with complex fund structures and transactions, such as dividend recapitalizations.
  • CPA designation preferred; strong command of U.S. GAAP is essential.
  • A confident communicator who is proactive, solutions-oriented, and thrives in a team-first environment.
  • A knack for process improvement and optimizing reporting systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with financial software tools.
