Government Contract Accountant / Project Accountant

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Government Contract Accountant for a newly created position with a growing organization that supports mission-critical work for federal agencies. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive professional who values meaningful work and wants to contribute to a dynamic growth-oriented environment.

Position Overview

The Government Contract Accountant will perform day-to-day accounting operations for government contracts ensuring compliance with FAR DFARS and DCAA requirements. This role will provide real-time financial insights and support strategic decision-making as the organization transitions from outsourced accounting to an in-house model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain General Ledger in Unanet including chart of accounts journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Prepare and submit invoices in compliance with contract types (T&M Cost Plus Fixed Price).
  • Manage Accounts Receivable and vendor payments; perform daily bank activity reviews and monthly reconciliations.
  • Process timesheets and labor distribution for accurate reporting.
  • Add new contracts and modifications in Unanet; generate monthly quarterly and annual financial reports.
  • Ensure compliance with DCAA audits and government regulations.
  • Calculate indirect rates and monitor cost pools (fringe overhead G&A).
  • Assist with budgeting forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Support audits proposals and tax-related requests; review subcontractor documentation.
  • Participate in system upgrades and process improvements in Unanet.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in government contract accounting.
  • Proficiency in Unanet ERP system (required).
  • Strong knowledge of FAR DFARS and DCAA compliance.
  • Excellent analytical organizational and communication skills.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
