The FE role will work alongside the geotechnical engineering team to provide quality assurance oversight of all aspects of shaft construction and acceptance. There are also 40,000 cubic yards of precast concrete and 50,000 cubic yards of cast in place concrete. The FE will be required to oversee and document construction of permanent structures including rebar inspections and concrete quality assurance, including filing daily field reports (DFRs) each day with the client.

Close coordination of construction interfaces with concurrent construction activities at the Shipyard is essential.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Understand and interpret contract documents including, design drawings and specifications, and confirm shaft construction is in conformance with the contract requirements.

  • Provide field engineering services to include inspection of steel reinforcing and casing elements prior to construction; observation of all aspects of drilling operations; communicate with geotechnical engineering team for rock socket inspections and/or be able to stand in for inspections; down hole inspection; and testing prior to acceptance.

  • Provide field engineering services during concrete placements documenting concrete testing and providing quality assurance.

  • Support the Resident Engineer and Lead Design Engineer in coordinating and supporting a diverse group of office and field engineers, inspectors and subconsultants.

  • Review and respond to contractor submittals and RFIs, monitor daily progress of Contractor’s work, and assist in the evaluation of value engineering proposals or field-initiated design changes.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • US Citizenship required; ability to pass DBIDs and NAVSEA badge background check required.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Solid oral and written communications skills.

  • Drilled shaft experience.

  • Precast or concrete testing experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale marine construction and its quality for achieving design service life requirements in a marine environment.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in civil or structural engineering

  • 3 to 7 years’ experience in construction or rehabilitation of large-scale transportation, marine, or civil works infrastructure, or 10 years of construction inspection experience on similar projects is required.
