Job Summary

Teach a general education course with significant writing and reading components on a topic of candidate’s choosing, approved by the Inquiry Seminar program director.

Responsibilities

• Design a research, writing, and speaking course, with support from the Inquiry Seminar program director, that fulfills a general education requirement for Bethel undergraduates and meets stated course objectives.
• Attend a summer workshop (stipend provided) to learn required elements and objectives of the course and design the syllabus and major assignments.
• Create and maintain a course Moodle page.
• Teach the class in person, grade assignments and tests, support students as needed to promote their learning, and work with an undergraduate T.A. who functions as a peer mentor to enrolled students.
• Contribute to an academic environment that seeks to advance inclusive excellence in the program and the University.

Skills

Ability and interest in teaching undergraduate students entering into rigorous college-level work in a residential liberal arts environment.

Ability to teach writing and public speaking with integration of scholarly sources (some training for this will be available at the summer workshop).

Clear communication and organizational skills.

Experience

Experience teaching writing and / or speaking required; experience teaching at the college level strongly preferred.

Education

Master’s degree required, PhD preferred, in English or related subject area.
