Department Summary
The Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities in the UCLA Department of Asian Languages & Cultures was established in 2014 to realize a sustainable, equitable, globally interconnected future for the Japanese humanities. Its activities include the advancement of scholarship on Japanese literature and the arts; support for literary translation; public programs on performance, film, design, music, art, food, and architecture; and the creation of digital educational content.
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Director and the direct supervision of the Associate Director, the Fund Manager provides analysis and budgetary administration for the Yanai Initiative for Globalizing Japanese Humanities in the UCLA Department of Asian Languages & Cultures (ALC), a program with an endowment of $55 million with an annual operating budget of over $2.5 million in endowment income, contracts and grants, and sales and service funds. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring budgets, approving and processing purchasing-related transactions, completing financial reports, and supporting preparation of fiscal close in coordination with the ALC senior fund manager and CAO. This position provides a variety of professional support services including, but not limited to, fund management and ledger reconciliation, financial reporting and budget analysis, preparation and reporting of contracts and grants budgets, preparation of international agreements, processing of visiting graduate researcher (VGR) appointments and visa applications, and use of all pertinent databases.

Qualifications
Detailed knowledge of University Accounting procedures and policies relating to
purchasing, travel, and general accounting practices.

Skill in the use of standard office software packages, MS Word, MS Excel, and
ability to perform internet searches.

Demonstrated skill and knowledge of financial management principles, budget
preparation, and budget analysis techniques employed at UCLA.

Ability to work and communicate with faculty, visitors, students, department
staff and staff from other departments in a diplomatic manner.

Ability to perform accounting tasks independently, accepting challenging
circumstances and taking initiative to solve problems where solutions are not
always readily apparent.

Demonstrated skill in analyzing financial data to draw appropriate conclusions,
recommend solutions, and communicate results orally and in writing.
