McLaren Macomb is excited to announce an increase in wages for Nurse Externs to $30. Once become a RN, Staff nurses start at $36 per hour!

Nurse Extern positions are for students that have completed their RN program.

Position Summary : Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Assesses, implements, plans and evaluates care utilizing the nursing process. Performs a variety of simple and complex tasks and procedures. Reports changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities :

• Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, assesses, implements, plans and evaluates nursing care utilizing the nursing process. Creates, updates, and documents the plan of care based on patient outcomes.
• Provides teaching to patient and family and documents the same.
• Initiates discharge planning and provides discharge instructions and documents the same.
• Provides direct and indirect patient care.
• Performs a variety of procedures / skills with successful completion of training.
• Works collaboratively with team members to assure appropriate care is provided.
• Assists physicians with bedside procedures.
• Prepares and maintains patient areas, utility rooms, etc. Works to maintain the unit in good working order.
• Performs other related job duties as requested.
