Good customer relations, assessment, and communication skills are essential for this role. Description: The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate-and-treat process. This role involves delivering patient care in complex, multi-problem patient care situations. The majority of the time is spent in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision-making, and self-direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for patient, family, and support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self-development activities. This role includes providing patient care with an understanding of population-specific needs. The Respiratory Therapist II addresses biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care to the patient. This position also participates in the education of new employees and others. Core responsibilities include providing customer service through completion of patient care, documentation, and education. Promotes a team spirit and positive work environment while providing a supportive environment for students and staff. Administers quality patient care through performing patient assessments and collaborating with healthcare team members in planning patient care. Verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, and airway management. Conducts arterial blood gas sampling and analysis while educating patients and mentoring new employees, students, and peers. Assists in invasive and non-invasive procedures and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Promotes current and accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging to ensure a safe and quality environment. Encourages high levels of patient safety and participates in performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care. Promotes evidence-based practice and reviews revised and new departmental policies as needed. Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all policies and standards of work.
