The Head Football Strength & Conditioning Coach)leads the comprehensive performance program for LSU Football by overseeing all strength, conditioning, speed, mobility, recovery, and sports science initiatives. This roleengages in a multidisciplinary team focused on optimizing the physical, mental, and overall performance of elite student-athletes competing at the highest level of Division I athletics.
The position integrates cutting-edge performance technology, including GPS tracking, force plates, velocity-based training (VBT), athlete management systems (AMS), and wellness monitoring, with individualized training plans designed to enhance performance, reduce injury risk, and support return-to-play progressions. The coach works collaboratively with sports medicine, team physicians, mental performance specialists, nutrition, football coaches, and performance chefs in a unified, athlete-centered model. The Director oversees the Football Operations Weight Room, manages staff, budgets, equipment, compliance, and program operations while fostering a high-performance, development-oriented culture aligned with LSU Athletics values.
50% Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive, year-round strength & conditioning program tailored to the physical demands of SEC football; Utilize sports-science technologies (GPS, force plates, AMS, VBT, HRV, wellness tracking) to inform decision-making, modify training loads, and present actionable insights to coaching and medical staff; Develop individualized and group-specific training plans addressing strength, power, speed, mobility, conditioning, recovery, and position-specific demands; Oversee safe and effective execution of workouts, ensuring proper technique, progression, and performance monitoring.
20% Partner closely with athletic trainers, team physicians, physical therapists, and mental performance specialists to design integrated return-to-play protocols; Participate in daily medical / performance team meetings to review athlete status, availability, and wellness monitoring outputs; Support holistic student-athlete development-including sleep, recovery, mental readiness, nutrition, and stress management, while maintaining compliance with NCAA rules.
20% Supervise and develop a team of Associate and Assistant Development Coaches through leadership, mentoring, evaluation, and ongoing professional development; Manage daily operations of the Football Operations Weight Room, including scheduling, inventory, maintenance, safety protocols, and equipment purchasing / installation; Oversee the unit's annual operating budget, long-term capital planning, and resource allocation; Ensure full compliance with NCAA policies, institutional expectations, and national strength & conditioning safety standards.
5% Communicate regularly with the Head Coach, coordinators, and position coaches to align training loads with team schedules, competitive cycles, practice intensity, and performance goals; Present performance metrics, readiness summaries, and developmental progress to football staff; Support game-day operations, including sideline organization, communication systems, and equipment handling, while contributing to overall program efficiency.
5% Advances and supports LSU and Athletics Department initiatives through personal participation in educational and developmental opportunities, as well as participation in the creation of a respectful culture consistent with the values of LSU and its Athletics Department; Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree is a sports science field with five years experience in a collegiate or professional strength and conditioning environment; Experience in performing and teaching weight lifting, running and rehabilitation exercises. CPR / AED certified; CSCS or CSCCa certification (NCAA approved Strength and Conditioning certification)
Preferred Qualifications :
Master's degree in a sports science field; Experience in a strength and conditioning program at a Power 4 university and / or the NFL; USAW Level 1 Coach Certification
Special or Physical Qualifications :
Ability and willingness to work extended days, weekends and holidays. Some travel may be required.
