General Definition of Work

The school psychology intern, under moderate supervision, performs intermediate-level work with limited decision-making discretion functioning as a school psychologist. Position administers assessments, develops interventions, and monitors student response. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Director of Student Wellness and Academic Support and / or a certified school psychologist.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Provide direct and indirect support to universal screenings, problem-solving models, data-based decision making, and development of behavioral and academic interventions
  • Administer psychoeducational assessments under the supervision of the licensed school psychologist to provide additional data and understanding of individual student's response to intervention
  • Assess students' social-emotional needs and provide counseling support services
  • Monitor student progress, interpret data, and communicate findings to various stakeholders
  • Consult with educators, families, and other relevant parties regarding cognitive, academic, social, and behavioral performance or needs
  • Facilitate professional development and attend other related meetings as needed / required
  • Participate in professional development workshops and training
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication
  • Perform related work as assigned or required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Comprehensive in-depth knowledge and understanding of the principles, practices, and procedures of public school system policies and school psychology
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements regarding school psychology
  • Comprehensive knowledge on how to utilize appropriate data and information to make instructional decisions for students
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of various learning styles, curriculum development and program evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with instructional technology tools, learning management systems, and multimedia resources
  • Skilled in the use of current software to include word processing, spreadsheets, and desktop publishing applications
  • Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs
  • Ability to implement local, state, and federal rules, guidelines, and procedures into daily business operations
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings / mediums

  • Education and Experience

  • Required to be enrolled in a school psychology program that is approved by National Association of School Psychologist (NASP) or American Psychological Association (APA)
  • Required to provide a letter from the university confirming that all coursework has been completed, including practicum experience. Official transcripts required.
