General Counsel Healthcare/Behavioral Health (Private Equity-Backed)
West Palm Beach, FL (on-site, 5 days/week)
PE-backed inpatient behavioral health platform (SUD & mental health)
$250,000$275,000 base (negotiable) + bonus | 100% employer-paid benefits
Full-Time | Direct Hire | Reports directly to the CEO
Career Staffing Talent has partnered with a private equity-backed behavioral health platform that operates healthcare facilities across multiple states, with a focus on complex, regulated care environments, and is headquartered in West Palm Beach.
This is the company's first General Counsel under new ownership. The GC will build the legal function from the ground up, serve as a true business partner to the CEO and executive team, and act as the primary legal interface with the sponsor and board.
The strongest candidates will be attracted by ownership, operating exposure, and the chance to build rather than inherit a legal department.
You'll operate as a department of one with broad authority setting legal strategy and executing it.
The first six months will be broad and high-impact, with responsibility for advising on core regulatory, employment, commercial, and governance matters across a complex healthcare operating environment.
Required Background
- 10+ years of legal experience, including substantial in-house healthcare experience.
- Deep multi-state regulatory experience in provider-side healthcare environments.
- Strong working knowledge of behavioral health, SUD, facility licensing, HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and reimbursement-related risk areas.
- Meaningful employment and labor experience supporting a multi-state workforce.
- Demonstrated ownership of litigation and outside counsel management.
- Experience in or alongside private equity-backed companies, with comfort operating in a high-accountability, fast-paced environment.
- J.D. and active bar membership in good standing.
Strong Preference
- Direct behavioral health and/or substance use disorder experience.
- Experience supporting inpatient, residential, or other high-acuity care settings.
- Experience as the lead legal advisor or top in-house legal executive.
Candidates are unlikely to be a fit if
- Their background is primarily payer-side.
- Their healthcare experience is heavily hospital-system, advisory, or law-firm based without real operating-side ownership.
- They have not supported multi-state provider organizations with meaningful regulatory and workforce complexity.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
You'll be the first General Counsel of a large platform not inheriting someone else's legal function, but building your own.
This is a true seat at the table. You report directly to the CEO, sit in executive meetings, and serve as the primary legal interface with the sponsor and board.
The work is immediate and consequential. A high-growth platform generates the full range of GC work from day one and the runway to shape the next several years is real.
Compensation is strong, and the benefits package is fully employer-paid.
