The Portfolio Technology Field CTO is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of technology and business. This role is designed to operate and continue to build a program that protects and creates value within Blackstone's global portfolio of companies.

As a senior member of the team, you will own relationships with business unit leaders and company executives to diagnose and drive varied enterprise technology initiatives throughout a portfolio of companies. As a trusted advisor, you will closely engage with CIOs to identify opportunities to deliver high quality technology solutions to their business in support of an investment thesis. You will own relationships with tech leaders, investment professionals, and third parties to ensure that technology projects are delivered on-time and on budget. Our work is a mix of hands-on program operations and advisory responsibilities that requires exceptional communication skills in order to interact with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of an organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess portfolio companies for value protection and value creation opportunities across the portfolio
  • Counsel and share knowledge about assessments with senior executives and peers
  • Interface with portfolio company management teams, provide guidance through the implementation of various technology initiatives
  • Assess and articulate technology risks, opportunities, and recommendations as part of investment due diligence
  • Ensure budget management practices are in place to optimize resource allocation during implementations
  • Guide the technology related aspects of carveouts and M&A initiatives across industries
  • Perform briefings about best practices to company leadership and technical teams
  • Interface with third parties to drive ongoing initiatives across the portfolio
  • Develop case studies based on successful engagements to share learnings
  • Use business intelligence tools to create reporting and maintain metrics using collected data
  • Own and drive select program functions and collaborate with teammates as assigned

Related Skills and Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technology field. M.S./MBA a plus.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a mix of hands-on and advisory/leadership roles
  • Expert level understanding of the business process and technical aspects of tech projects
  • Experience leading operational technology teams and engaging with C-suite members
  • Ability to diagnose technology project health related to scope, complexity, resourcing, and timing
  • Ability to advise CIOs on best practices related to staffing, budgeting, and communications
  • Ability to identify manual business processes that can be automated for cost savings
  • Demonstrated experience driving revenue enablement and/or cost optimization initiatives
  • Broad subject-matter experience and able to field discussions across the spectrum of business process and technology
  • Demonstrated success executing across multiple initiatives, exceptional time management skills, and comfort navigating uncertainty
  • Ability and natural desire to work as a player-coach with clients and junior team members
  • Prior consultative/internal experience with senior technical and non-technical executives
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, scripting/coding experience a plus.
  • Self-starter, ability to prioritize work, and propose and implement improvements
  • Highly effective communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Strong time management skills and entrepreneurial attitude
  • Desire to work in a small team in a hands-on way

Expected annual base salary range: $225,000 - $275,000. Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's experience, skills, qualifications and job location. For roles located outside of the US, please disregard the posted salary bands as these roles will follow a separate compensation process based on local market comparables.
