Job description

Our Client is seeking an experienced Lead Estimator to manage the preparation of competitive, accurate, and comprehensive bids for heavy civil and transportation projects throughout the NYC metropolitan area. This high-impact leadership role will oversee all phases of estimating — from takeoffs and subcontractor outreach through final proposal submission — while collaborating with executive leadership, project management, and field operations to support continued company growth.

This is a strategic opportunity to take a leading role within a respected, self-performing heavy civil contractor recognized for delivering major infrastructure projects across New York.

Why Join Us?

  • Opportunity to lead major NYC infrastructure pursuits and influence the company’s growth trajectory

  • Long-term career path within a well-established, family-driven contractor

  • Collaborative culture built on integrity, performance, and safety

  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package

  • Stability and reputation in the heavy civil construction market

  • Direct engagement with executive leadership and decision-makers

  • Projects include work with NYSDOT, MTA, PANYNJ, DDC, DEP, and other leading agencies

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and manage the preparation of detailed cost estimates for heavy civil bid-build and alternative delivery projects

  • Review plans, specifications, and RFP/RFQ documents to identify scope, risks, and opportunities

  • Coordinate with designers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure complete and competitive pricing

  • Develop and maintain accurate labor, equipment, and material cost databases

  • Direct bid strategy meetings and present cost summaries and recommendations to senior leadership

  • Mentor and oversee junior estimating staff, reviewing takeoffs and work packages for accuracy

  • Collaborate with operations teams to integrate means and methods into estimates

  • Maintain current knowledge of agency procurement processes and bidding standards

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)

  • 10–12+ years of experience estimating heavy civil and transportation infrastructure projects

  • Expertise in HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and Excel; familiarity with Primavera P6, Trimble Business Center, and AutoCAD a plus

  • Strong understanding of excavation, concrete, steel, utilities, water/wastewater treatment, bridge, and highway construction

  • Proven leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple complex pursuits

  • Experience with design-build and conceptual estimating preferred

Employee Benefits:

  • Health Coverage: Comprehensive medical plan with low employee costs

  • Dental & Vision: Employer-supported plans

  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) program with employer contribution

  • Paid Time Off: Competitive PTO package

  • Annual Reviews: Yearly performance evaluations with salary review potential
