Why Teach in Houston County

Houston County, TN, is a small school district with approximately 1,300 students attending four campuses, resulting in a low student-to-staff ratio. A county population of roughly 8,400 and a single high school foster the sense of community that is often lacking in larger districts. Join us and teach where smaller classes, tighter teams, opportunities for advancement, and a safe, spirited campus culture come standard, so you can focus on what matters most: helping every student succeed.

About Houston County, Tennessee

Tucked amid the Highland Rim's rolling hills, Houston County is a rural county of 8,283 residents, offering small-town warmth and elbow room in equal measure. The county seat of Erin bursts with Irish pride each March during the annual Irish Day Celebration that fills Main Street with parades, live music, and more than 150 vendors. Kentucky Lake and the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area are just minutes away, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, hiking, and camping. Despite a wealth of recreation, the cost of living here sits comfortably below the U.S. average. Residents enjoy quick access to big-city amenities, too - Nashville is only about 54 miles away, with its international airport, professional sports, and world-class arts. Families appreciate the Houston County School District's small class sizes and community-focused culture. As part of the Tennessee Department of Education's Mid-Cumberland CORE Region, HCSD staff benefit from robust regional professional learning networks.

In Houston County, you can trade traffic for tranquility without giving up opportunity--a place where porch sunsets, supportive neighbors, and career growth come standard.

Houston County Middle School in Tennessee Ridge, TN, is a close-knit campus of roughly 250 students. HCMS seeks an exceptional education teacher to join a collaborative district team of special education teachers, assistants, and supervisors. In this role, you will design and deliver specialized instruction for students with disabilities, develop and implement compliant IEPs, and use data-driven strategies to promote academic and social-emotional growth. You will conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and develop Behavior Intervention Plans, collaborate with general educators and related-service providers to support inclusive practices, and maintain accurate progress monitoring and compliance documentation. Working in a small, community middle school, you'll benefit from close partnerships with families, smaller caseloads that allow for individualized attention, and a supportive culture where your expertise is valued and teamwork drives success. Professional learning opportunities will ensure you stay current with best practices, and you'll have mentorship from experienced supervisors and colleagues to guide your growth.
