Job description

About Trinity Valley School

Founded in 1959 and named for the Trinity River that flows nearby, Trinity Valley School is an independent, nonsectarian, college-preparatory school which seeks students of above-average to superior ability who will contribute to the diversity of the student body and enrich the school community. Enrollment includes more than 1,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 on a 75-acre campus in Fort Worth, Texas. Families choose TVS for its deep commitment to developing curious minds and lifelong learners, as well as for its strong sense of community.

TVS provides extraordinary opportunities for students to develop empathy and inclusivity as leaders and to stretch themselves in academics, athletics, visual and performing arts, and signature programs in outdoor experiential education and global education.

Trinity Valley School recruits and retains exemplary faculty whose skill in the classroom is complemented by their positive contributions to other programs and endeavors within the school community. These stelar faculty, inspire excellence and actively promote the mission and philosophy of the school by modeling for their students the resiliency, flexibility and persistence that embodies the TVS school motto, Per Aspera ad Astra (Through Difficulty to the Stars!).

Who You Are

We seek an educator with a passion for teaching and working with children, especially those of middle-school age, who demonstrates enthusiasm for both English and Social Studies, and who places students at the heart of their instructional practice.

This position represents an opportunity to guide seventh graders through one of the most formative intellectual journeys of their lives. In this role, you will teach an integrated American Studies curriculum that weaves together early American history, from Spanish exploration and conquest through the Constitutional Era and early Texas statehood, with the literature, poetry, short stories, and plays that bring these periods to life. You will help young adolescents grapple with complex and sometimes heavy historical topics in thoughtful, age-appropriate ways, creating space for them to ask hard questions, sit with ambiguity, and develop nuanced understanding. Through this integration of English Language Arts and Social Studies, you will help students see the connections between literature and history, deepening their understanding of American culture and their own place within it.

You will guide students in crafting and defending academic arguments supported by textual evidence, continuing to develop their grammar and vocabulary skills while fostering analytical

and critical thinking. Your classroom will be a place where students learn not just what happened in history, but why it matters and how the stories we tell shape who we become.

Being a teacher here means stepping far beyond the smartboard and supervision duties. You serve as an advisor, mentoring a small group of students and serving on the front lines of academic and social-emotional support. You'll participate on overnight Trojan Outdoor Experience (TOE) trips for your grade level, with the opportunity to get to know students beyond the classroom setting. Faculty stay onsite in tents or cabins, sharing in the same experience as our students. Your hobbies and interests can become the feature of a special elective "Selectives" course, inspiring students to join in. Backpacking, Campfire Cooking, and Aviation are fan favorites! Coaching opportunities and sponsoring extracurricular clubs are also a powerful way to invest in our students. You are a steady presence on the sidelines and in auditoriums cheering kids on - your presence and support there contribute to their success in your classroom and beyond.

The TVS Middle School Team

The TVS Middle School strives to create a nurturing educational experience that meets the unique social, emotional, and cognitive needs of middle school students while fostering creative problem solving, innovative thinking, and community connection each and every day. The Middle School is much more than a bridge between Lower and Upper School. It provides a foundation of independence and leadership, and through a blend of traditional and unique programming, teachers provide students with the tools to be successful inside and outside of the classroom, and more importantly in life.

With approximately 300 students and 40 faculty members, the Middle School offers an intimate environment where every student is known and valued. Just as important as the work we do with students is the way we show up for one another. Our faculty is a true team. We pride ourselves on operating like a family, built on trust, joy, and a shared commitment to supporting each other through the beautiful chaos of middle school life. We celebrate together, we solve problems together, and we step in for one another without hesitation. We're looking for someone who wants to be part of the TVS community, someone who brings warmth and positivity to their everyday interactions, who finds joy in collaboration, and who is always willing to lend a hand. Here, no one stands alone; we lift together.

Your Impact

The ideal candidate will engage with the school mission, vision and values and fully support the four main objectives for its students: fine scholarship, wide constructive interests, intelligent citizenship, and spiritual and moral development.

Fine Scholarship

Your enthusiasm for the study of both English and history is evident and inspiring, and you bring a deep understanding for how these disciplines illuminate one another. You hold a master's degree in English, History, or a related field (preferred; not required). Your expertise in curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment, and alignment informs student-centered instruction. The learning culture you will create values the process over grades and embraces mistakes as part of the journey. You'll cultivate a learning environment that values the process over grades and embraces mistakes as part of the journey, prioritizing continuous professional growth and modeling a commitment to lifelong learning. You'll also foster a growth mindset in your students, encouraging reflection, curiosity, and ongoing development.

Wide Constructive Interests

You have experience and interest in developing innovative uses of technology in the American Studies classroom as well as comfort with its administrative use. Your leadership qualities inspire, motivate, and develop students during a formative period of their lives. By encouraging students to think creatively and explore ideas in innovative ways, you will help expand their knowledge and spark new interests. You're excited to collaborate with colleagues and bridge relationships between internal and external partners to contribute to shaping your students' experience.

Intelligent Citizenship

You recognize and honor the diverse spiritual, cultural, and moral backgrounds represented in the school community, and you actively cultivate a learning environment where all students feel respected, seen and valued. You create the conditions for students to engage with difficult historical topics with empathy, critical thinking, and intellectual courage. Your actions and attitudes nurture a deep feeling of community. Your clear, consistent, and effective communication with families, builds trust and partnership.

Spiritual and Moral Development

You exemplify and model personal and professional integrity that reflects the values we seek to instill in our students. You balance care and flexibility while holding students to high expectations.Your deep commitment to fostering students' moral growth, character development, and sense of personal responsibility is particularly impactful as they encounter challenging historical narratives and learn to think critically about justice, power, and human dignity. Through your actions and leadership, you demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering students' moral growth, character development, and sense of personal responsibility and Trojan pride.
