Job description

Program Manager Stroke Program

The Program Manager coordinates activities of the Stroke Program by developing, implementing and coordinating activities through interdisciplinary collaboration and utilization of stroke guidelines and practice standards. Essential job duties include developing and promoting evidence-based stroke education and training for physicians, staff, prehospital personnel, patients and families. The Program Manager plans and coordinates community outreach educational activities, leads the Stroke Program Committee and participates in other hospital-based committees. They oversee policy development with periodic review and update of care guidelines to support the stroke program, attend Code Stroke, and serve as a clinical resource for the care and management of stroke patients. They follow up on patient care issues with physicians, staff, prehospital personnel, patients and families. The Program Manager acts as a liaison between the hospital and outside entities through participation in regional meetings related to stroke.

Qualifications include excellent communication, problem-solving and planning skills. The Program Manager should be able to work well as part of a team and effectively with all levels of the organization to achieve outcomes, direct others and negotiate for desired results. Knowledge and skill in professional nursing theory and practice, including physiological principles involved in the care of acute and critical patients, principles of teaching and learning, research, and performance improvement are required. The Program Manager must have knowledge of accreditation and regulatory compliance standards, a minimum of three years' experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting, experience in Stroke Program Coordination: planning, implementing and evaluating outcomes, a current license to practice professional nursing in the state of California, current basic life support (BLS) certification, and an advanced National Certification is preferred.
