This unique opportunity takes place in Emory's flagship hospital, Emory University Hospital (EUH), where we are enhancing and standardizing the care team that manages complex gut failure patients in collaboration with the Department of Surgery and the Division of Gastroenterology.

Gut Failure Program at Emory University Hospital

* EUH is a 750+ bed quaternary care center staffed entirely by faculty physicians in over 70 subspecialties

* Consistently recognized as Georgia's #1 hospital, EUH ranks nationally in specialties including cardiology, transplant, oncology, and neurosciences, and has achieved Magnet designation 3 times.

* The Gut Failure Program is designed to treat patients with diagnoses including; fistulas, short bowel syndrome, peritoneal abscesses, complicated and recurrent intestinal adhesions and/or obstructions, incisional & parastomal hernias (requiring complex abdominal wall reconstruction,) complicated pancreatitis, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and other conditions of the digestive tract leading to intestinal resections and short gut.

Opportunity Details

* Dedicate at least 50% of clinical time to the Gut Failure Team, to enhance skills and knowledge in the management of gut failure patients, with the remaining time used to rotate on other hospitalist services to maintain broader experience and skills

* Co-lead the medical management for gut failure patients by establishing a comprehensive service to optimize care delivery for those with complicated pathophysiology, in partnership with General Surgery, Gastroenterology, APPs, nurses, dietary and psychology teams, social work, etc...

* Lead quality and patient safety initiatives relating to patient outcomes and care management

* Pursue academic responsibilities, in addition to the promotion of service excellence by educating and leading trainees and other care team members.

* Compensation & Benefits: Competitive salary with performance-based incentives, CME support, and comprehensive benefits including retirement plans and wellness programs

Qualifications

* BC ABIM with an active GA medical license or the ability to obtain one

* History of effective teaching and successful mentoring across professions in inpatient settings

* Preferred: Experience providing hospital medicine care at a high acuity academic medical center

Community Highlights - Life in Metro Atlanta

* Consistently ranked among the best places to live in Georgia, one of the top cities for young professionals, and among the healthiest cities in the U.S.

* Offers a unique blend of vibrant city life and peaceful suburban neighborhoods, with a low cost of living compared to many U.S. cities and innovative solutions such as micro-home communities and urban farms

* Culturally rich and diverse, with historic landmarks such as the Centennial Olympic Park, and a dynamic entertainment industry that has earned Atlanta the nickname "Hollywood of the South"

* Easy access to world-class amenities including the busiest international airport, a thriving arts and music scene, professional sports teams, and award-winning dining and shopping experiences

* Known as "The City in a Forest" with nearly 50 percent tree canopy coverage and abundant outdoor activities, like the Atlanta Belt Line, with hiking, biking trails, kayaking and nature parks
