OBGYN Hospitalist (Night Coverage) (Locum Tenens)

Schedule: 12 hour night shifts; priority coverage Monday through Thursday nights; approximately 5 to 10 shifts per month; limited weekend and 24 hour shift options may be available
Setting: Inpatient obstetric service coverage

Position Overview

Provide overnight obstetric service coverage including supervision and teaching of in house OB GYN residents and management of laboring and postpartum patients and gynecologic emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Overnight coverage of the obstetric service during evenings, nights, and weekends as scheduled.
• Supervision and teaching of in house OB GYN residents.
• Management of laboring patients, obstetrical triage, postpartum patients, and gynecologic emergencies.
• Performance of obstetrical and gynecologic procedures as clinically indicated.
• Participation in emergency cesarean deliveries and urgent gynecologic surgical care.
• Collaboration with nursing, anesthesia, neonatology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and subspecialty consultants.

Coverage Structure

• One generalist OB GYN attending physician and one OB GYN resident are in house overnight in addition to the hospitalist.
• Minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and gynecologic oncology services cover their own patients overnight and on weekends from home.
• Gynecologic backup support is available for complex surgical cases.

Required Qualifications

• Board eligible or board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
• Eligible for or currently holding a Connecticut medical license.
• Strong communication and team based care skills.

Preferred

• Experience supervising residents and managing high acuity obstetrical patients.
