Job description

Senior Human Resources Generalist

The Senior Human Resources Generalist manages the day-to-day operations of Arden Building Companies' Human Resources (HR) function and serves as a trusted partner to leadership and employees, supporting a broad range of HR responsibilities including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, compliance, training, and employee development. This role manages complex HR matters, provides guidance to managers, and helps implement HR initiatives that support organizational goals and employee engagement. As the company's dedicated HR professional, this highly visible individual contributor role reports directly to the CEO collaborates closely with leaders throughout the organization.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. Success in this role requires exceptional judgment, discretion, communication skills, and the ability to build credibility and trust at all levels of the organization by being an effective listener, advocate, mediator, coach, and problem-solver for personnel matters while balancing business needs and corporate growth objectives. This position is located in our Pawtucket, Rhode Island office, but will require inter-office travel to our Waterbury, Connecticut and Woburn, Massachusetts locations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the HR department, ensuring consistent, fair, and legally compliant policies, practices, and procedures are in place and documented to support employee success and organizational objectives.
  • Drive the full-cycle recruitment and selection process for exempt and non-exempt non-union positions, including workforce development, job description development, candidate sourcing, and interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
  • Administer the annual performance management and compensation review process, conducting salary benchmarking and analysis to ensure employee development and retention in line with company goals.
  • Manage the employee benefits program, conducting periodic changes and the annual open enrollment process.
  • Monitor changes in employment laws and HR best practices. Maintain professional knowledge of any legal updates, industry changes, and directional shifts in order to advise executive management on proposed courses of action.
  • Implement and measure meaningful KPIs that provide insight on progress and trends related to recruiting, employees, strategic goals, etc. and report to senior management during quarterly management meetings.
  • Partner with department leaders in all employee relations matters while sharing expertise and insights regarding HR policies, performance management, disciplinary matters, etc.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure effective utilization of HRIS systems and processes.
  • Drive initiatives in the management team and organizationally that contribute to long-term employee excellence and business growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field; SHRM-CP/PHR/equivalent certification strongly preferred
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an HR Generalist/Business Partner/Manager role, preferably in a construction environment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other management staff, employees, candidates, and other external stakeholders
  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities
  • Must have a solid command of Microsoft 365 products, not limited to Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook; experience with BambooHR (or similar HRIS platform) preferred
  • Availability for travel throughout Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut (up to 25%)
