Job description

Service Manager

The Service Manager is responsible for leading the Service Division, ensuring operational excellence, client satisfaction, safety compliance, and technical performance. This role provides strategic leadership to service teams, oversees daily operations, develops talent, and maintains strong client and vendor relationships while supporting company growth and profitability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate teams to achieve operational excellence and maintain high morale.
  • Oversee quality control processes to ensure service standards are met consistently.
  • Manage employee performance, including conducting reviews, coaching, and discipline.
  • Establish SOPs where missing, optimize where needed and establish KPI's to aid in optimizing technicians and any subordinate managers performance in order to drive strong financial performance
  • Develop talent by evaluating technician strengths and weaknesses, and providing appropriate training.
  • Manage client relationships to maintain strong industry presence and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee daily operations and assist in scheduling technicians; reassess schedules as conditions change, including support for on-call technicians.
  • Supervise all activities within the service and operations division.
  • Enforce and support compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Recruit, hire, and terminate staff as necessary, managing employee reviews and development.
  • Assist in troubleshooting technical and mechanical issues on projects and routine service calls.
  • Manage pre-startup activities, equipment information, and confirm equipment startup procedures.
  • Provide accurate parts and labor hour estimates for annual maintenance of equipment such as Boilers, Chillers, CDA units, Vacuum Pumps, and Boxcars.
  • Support management of the service vehicle fleet.
  • Oversee refrigerant tracking and ensure EPA reporting compliance.
  • Conduct safety meetings and manage overall safety programs.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with technicians, vendors, and clients to uphold company reputation.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to support equipment startup and installation; assign technicians based on equipment needs.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.

Education/Experience: A Bachelor's Degree is preferred, and minimum 5 years of experience in a similar position with a minimum of 10 years HVAC mechanical commercial businesses is required.

Language Ability: Ability to comprehend technical instruction and understand Public Relations and Marketing concepts and practices. Ability to write reports, process spreadsheets and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Math Ability: Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and excel formulas.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Capable of interpreting and understanding industry trends and current company methods. Must possess an analytical mind with attention to detail and ability to multi-task accurately and timely.

Certificates and Licenses: Valid California Driver's License required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct reports include technicians as well as any leaders of technicians within the service department which must be managed based on time efficiency, service quality, sales and training. Candidate must have excellent work habits, be well organized and results driven. Ability to work in a self-directed, organized manner.

Work Environment: The position requires work both in office, on phone and email as well as time in field managing the performance of technicians, customer relationships as well as trouble-shooting service work in field as needed. Demonstrate ability to show flexibility in response to change as well as the ability to recommend changes that will benefit the company performance.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to fingers, feet. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl for up to 12 hours per day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
