Maron Marvel has an immediate opening for a legal assistant to join its New Orleans Office.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide secretarial support to two or more lawyers at the firm.
- Assist paralegals as needed on administrative/non-billable tasks as assigned by attorneys.
- Prepare, edit, and proofread all legal documents.
- E-filing experience and familiarity with state, local and federal courts.
- Maintain attorneys' calendars and organize appointments, including court deadlines.
- Organize all legal documents and ensure they are updated.
- Research requests for information.
- Assemble documents and materials for depositions, court appearances, meetings and hearings.
- Ensure all court documents are in order and filed before deadlines.
- Account for and record attorney billable time.
- Assist in making travel arrangements for attorneys as necessary.
- Submit attorneys expense reimbursements.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Track, order and receive office supplies.
- Perform various administrative office management tasks as necessary
- High School diploma or its equivalent required, or Certificate or Degree from a Business School is preferred.
- Requires 3 to 5 years of legal secretarial, executive secretarial or secretarial administrative assistant experience, preferably with a large sized law or professional firm.
- Strong knowledge of court rules and litigation procedures.
- In depth knowledge of legal documents and terminology.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
- Strong secretarial skills including typing, proofreading, spelling, grammar, and math.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload and use own judgment in decision making on how to adequately and efficiently meet all deadlines.
- Ability to take the initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done.
