The University Library is seeking to hire a Library Associate II on a full - time basis at our Atlanta campus. The scope of the responsibilities will include these essential duties, but is not limited to the following:
Following metadata guidelines, create original metadata descriptions and records for digital assets for review by the Digital Projects Coordinator.
Assists with updating existing metadata records to bring them up to current standards.
Acts as the unit Registrar. Retrieves, processes, and prepares library materials for digitization and eventual long-term digital storage.
Evaluates objects and materials for digitization, determining the safest approach for digitization according to fragility and material type, and determining appropriate equipment.
Liaise with stakeholders during the process and when issues arise.
Once digitized, ensures items have been captured and organizes the image files for archival storage.
Coordinates with other Library units on the retrieval and return of library materials.
Acts as primary supervisor for Student Assistants by hiring/firing, training, and disciplining when necessary.
Creates student schedules, oversees student worker training, assigns and adjusts projects, conducts quality control of student work, reviews and refines student work performance, and approves timecards.
Revises and edits student training material for clarity. Acts as backup supervisor for GRAs in the absence of the Digital Projects Coordinator.
Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of digitization equipment and processes.
Acts as the primary support tech for programmatic library digitization equipment and primary contact with digitization support vendors.
Document and prepare training material related to policies, procedures, and workflows within Digital Projects.
Make recommendations for supplies and equipment to refresh the Digital Projects Coordinator.
Uses scanners and cameras with the appropriate capture software to convert textual and other material formats into digital images to meet project standards.
Performs image treatment as needed using the image treatment or scanner system software. Uses sound judgment in applying project standards in creating, treating, and managing images.
Converts image files to various file formats and, depending on the project, follows established taxonomy and naming conventions to assign file names.
Demonstrates very careful attention to detail and a high level of efficiency and accuracy in creating and correctly naming and organizing image files.
Participates in special initiatives and projects per the direction of the Digital Projects Coordinator.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible library experience, including three years in the assigned functional area, or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Photography or related major.
MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
Demonstrated experience with digital photography, preferably within special collections, library, archives, museum, or other relevant institutions.
Demonstrated experience in image processing, including image editing applications such as Adobe Photoshop and workflow capture software such as CaptureOne.
Familiarity with FADGI, ISO, and/or metamorfoze image standards and their application in a production environment, including experience working with color control targets.
Experience with Digital Transitions equipment.
