SECURITY GUARD

Salary : 105 - $ 29,926.00 minimum salary

Purpose of Classification

Performs security work in support of assigned county buildings and facilities. Duties include maintaining constant vigilance over the assigned county building or facility. Positions in this class perform routine security and identify needed corrective actions to resolve discrepancies; answer questions; and maintain documents and records.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Provides monitoring service and safe environment during shift at assigned county building or facility.

Periodically patrols the pedestrian area, the bridge sidewalks, public and the employee parking lots; assists and accompanies all visitors to the office area and escorts them, if necessary, to the staff person with whom they have business;

Checks for locked doors in the assigned county buildings or facilities; reports any incidents or accidents involving employees, pedestrian, visitors, vehicles, and buildings in writing to management.

Enforces rules and regulations and assists with problems encounter at assigned county buildings or facilities including physical intervention and emergency assistance; resolves problems that may arise in a proactive and professional manner.

Provides assistance and information to employees, managers, vendors, citizens, local businesses, and / or and other interested parties regarding security functions; must follow security guard policies and procedures.

If stationed at an international bridge, may perform toll collector duties by relieving toll collectors and emergencies; directs and coordinates traffic approaching the toll booth areas; perform janitorial duties (and groundskeeping duties).

Additional Functions

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) year of experience performing as a security guard and / or safety support work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Physical Ability : Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and / or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (50 - 100 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion at a keyboard or work station.

Sensory Requirements : Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors : Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

This position is subject to a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil service eligibility; Must submit to a Civil Service Security Exam.
