Job Summary:

Are you a nursing student looking to advance your clinical knowledge and skill proficiency? Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is excited to offer the NEXT: Vanderbilt Nurse Externship Program, providing a unique opportunity for professional and personal growth in the field of nursing.

Program Overview:

The VUMC Nurse Externship Program is designed to foster the development of student nurses into confident, competent professionals. As a Nurse Extern, you will play a vital role in providing direct clinical care to patients and supporting services to their families across the healthcare continuum. The externship will provide the following:
*Hands-on experience in a leading healthcare institution
*Mentorship and guidance from experienced nursing professionals
*Opportunity for professional growth and skill development
*Competitive stipend during the externship period

2024 Program Dates

Pediatric Track start date:
*June 3 through July 26

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist with the delivery of patient care and maintenance of unit environmental standards under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

  • Assists with day-to-day delivery of patient care.
  • Facilitates efficient and safe patient care and flow by following work area standards.
  • Serves as a liaison for communication and education of patient and family needs.
  • Supports unit operations and patient flow by maintaining supplies, equipment and unit environmental standards.
  • The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High School Graduate or possess a GED.
  • Enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
  • Completed at least 2 rotations of hospital-based clinical nursing experience prior to the start of the program.
  • Must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from a VUMC acceptable agency.
