Job description

Director Of Nursing

Under the supervision of the Dean of Health and Human Services, the Director of Nursing is primarily responsible for the administrative functions of the Nursing Program including planning, direction, organization, and operation of the nursing education programs and Henry Ford College (HFC). This position provides leadership in the development, revision, evaluation, assessment, improvement, and maintenance of the Nursing Program. Represents the college in the community to establish and maintain effective relationships and contracts. Assures the program is compliant with federal, state and accreditation standards. Provides leadership for fiscal planning and budget considerations to accomplish program goals. The Director of Nursing supports the College's mission, vision and values and fosters a cooperative relationship with faculty, staff, students, and the community. This position requires a commitment to diversity, excellence, student engagement and success.

Core Competencies and Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Current Michigan License as a Registered Nurse (or eligible with 30 days of employment)
  • Two years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Two years of full-time teaching experience in an accredited nursing program
  • Knowledge or experience with program accreditation
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent analytical skills.
  • Must have a collaborative management style, demonstrate the ability to maintain a positive working relationship with college personnel and representatives of various external agencies, and possess the ability to work effectively with students and staff in a multicultural environment.

The most successful candidate will have a career that includes the following:

  • Doctorate Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Nursing, Education, or Administration.
  • Two years of Leadership, management or supervisory experience

Essential Duties and Responsibilities including but not limited to

  1. Provide Leadership for the Nursing Programs.
  2. Organize, administer, review, develop, and assure program effectiveness through an ongoing program assessment process.
  3. Coordinate and conduct processes required to maintain program accreditation.
  4. Provides input on the recruitment of new clinical partners, preparation of clinical contracts, and coordination of clinical placements.
  5. Prepares reports for continued compliance approval and accreditation for the nursing program.
  6. Collaborate with faculty to facilitate a quality learning experience for students throughout the program.
  7. With faculty review, choose instructional materials used in the learning process to be culturally relevant, accessible, and current.
  8. Directs the development and evaluation of policies and standards for the selection, admission, promotion, and graduation of nursing students.
  9. Monitor and document the academic performance of students to ensure that they successfully achieve the criteria for completing learning experiences.
  10. Provide direct input into curriculum design, review, and revision processes.
  11. Participate in academic program meetings, institutional governance, and/or community service activities as appropriate to the mission of HFC.
  12. Lead program reviews, assessments, revisions, and new program options.
  13. Provide students with sufficient opportunity for private consultation and conferences.
  14. Cooperate with other members of the faculty in serving the needs of students.
  15. Participate in departmental, school, and college meetings.
  16. Participate in the recruitment, progression, graduation, and withdrawal of students
  17. Promote in-service programs for departmental faculty as well as assisting with community education programs.
  18. Maintain equipment and supply inventory for the programs and administration of the departmental budget.
  19. Participate in the selection of adjunct and full-time faculty in support of the program or school.
  20. Maintain a current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  21. Cooperate with the College community in meeting the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and abilities both in the classroom and in the college environment
  22. Oversees student success activities, learning materials, National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) preparation courses, and nursing licensing requirements and processes.
  23. Assists in resolving staff and/or student problems in the nursing programs.
  24. Chairs the advisory committee and faculty meetings for the nursing programs, assuring student and faculty membership and participation; attends and participates in professional group meetings; participates in community events and meetings related to the area of assignment.
  25. Act as designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act and is responsible for fulfilling all related obligations, including reporting responsibilities and completion of annual training.
  26. Function as an administrative member in other job responsibilities as delegated by the Dean.
