JOB TITLE: Yard Operations Coordinator

LOCATION: Santa Maria

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Yard Operations Coordinator is responsible for the cleanliness, organization, staging, and coordination of recyclable materials across yard operations. This role ensures materials are properly managed, pickups are scheduled in a timely manner, and communication flows effectively between site operations, the Facilities Coordinator, and the Santa Barbara Recycle Yard Manager.

This position serves as a key link between yard activities and recycling logistics, helping maintain safe, organized, and efficient site conditions. A high emphasis is placed on teamwork and flexibility to adapt to the immediate needs of the operation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain cleanliness, safety issues and maintenance of the Santa Maria yard.
  • Work closely with the Facilities Coordinator regarding maintenance needs and special projects.
  • Provide regular updates to Operations Supervisor on material volume, site conditions and operational issues.
  • Identify and report maintenance needs and support site organization standards and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels of bins and carts.
  • Monitor, organize and coordinate and schedule pickup of mattresses and other recyclable material.
  • Monitor baled commodities and notify operations when trucks should be ordered
  • Provide courteous, professional, and prompt customer service to those visiting the yard and direct them to appropriate drop off area in yard.
  • Conduct initial inspection of material being dropped off to ensure compliance with program requirements, including proper segregation of electronics, mattresses and ABOP waste.
  • Wash the interior and exterior of all containers, bins and lids.
  • Assist in assembling carts and performing repairs on carts as needed.
  • Assist in bin/cart exchanges.
  • Support troubleshooting of the on-site CNG Station.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the water filtration system to ensure it is working, not clogged.
  • Act as a liaison between yard operations and facilities.
  • Responsible for the movement of containers within the yard, the loading and unloading of new and used containers.
  • Assist with washing of equipment.
  • Inspection of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations & ladders to ensure compliance
  • Assists team members in the completion of project work within the shop & yard.
  • Assist drivers on routes as needed.
  • Assist in sorting the material in yard.
  • Operate Scissor lift to help load truck
  • Track and report that would meet Cal Recycle and Department of Toxic Substances Control.
  • Work with internal resources and preferred vendors to transport the antifreeze, batteries, oils, paints, electronics, wood cardboard and plastic from ABOP Centers.
  • Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Adhere to safe work practices and always use proper PPE.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and at the discretion of the Manager.
  • Monitor and Fuel Yard Equipment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3 years of previous experience in facility coordination, yard operations, waste/recycling and logistics preferred.
  • Class C license with clean driving record, with a desire to obtain CDL B within 6-month period.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working with internal and external vendors and services contracting.
  • Extensive experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Forklift and Boom lift certified.
  • HAZWOPER certified.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely operate forklift and cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to stand during assigned work shift and perform heavy manual labor.
  • Must be willing to follow all safety procedures and work in a safe manner.
  • Ability to interact effectively with co-workers and work well in a team environment.
  • Minimum one year of work experience in a safety sensitive environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School, GED, or combination of training and/or experience required.
  • At least one (1) year of general labor experience.
