Job description

People Operations Specialist

Gridware is a San Francisco-based technology company dedicated to protecting and enhancing the electrical grid. We pioneered a groundbreaking new class of grid management called active grid response (AGR), focused on monitoring the electrical, physical, and environmental aspects of the grid that affect reliability and safety. Gridware's advanced Active Grid Response platform uses high-precision sensors to detect potential issues early, enabling proactive maintenance and fault mitigation. This comprehensive approach helps improve safety, reduce outages, and ensure the grid operates efficiently. The company is backed by climate-tech and Silicon Valley investors.

We're looking for a scrappy, self-starting People Operations Specialist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. This is not a "wait for instructions" role, you'll receive directional guidance and be expected to build, execute, and iterate independently. If you've supported in construction, skilled trades, or other hourly workforce environments and have a genuine passion for people operations and workplace safety, we want to talk to you.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain HR policies, SOPs, training materials, employee communications, and internal documentation through Confluence.
  • Coordinate onboarding administration, including new hire paperwork, and system setup.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, timekeeping, and HR systems.
  • Administer and maintain employee records, HRIS data, personnel files, and organizational documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support HR compliance activities, including audits, required postings, I-9s, document retention, and employment law requirements.
  • Support workplace safety initiatives by administering safety training, tracking and reporting incidents, and following up on required compliance activities.
  • Serve as a resource for hourly employees by providing guidance on Rippling, timekeeping, meal and rest break requirements, and wage and hour compliance.
  • Continuously improve People Operations processes by identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, enhance the employee experience, and scale HR programs.

Required Skills

  • 35 years of experience in HR, people operations, or a related administrative role
  • Background in construction, manufacturing, logistics, or other hourly/field workforce industries strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to create clear, effective content and communications
  • Strong administrative skills - organized, detail-oriented, and reliable
  • Familiarity with safety programs, OSHA standards, or field safety culture
  • A generalist mindset - comfortable wearing many hats and jumping between tasks
  • Self-motivated with a "get it done" attitude and strong follow-through
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems (Rippling), Microsoft Office, Benefits Systems, Timekeeping applications, etc...

Bonus Skills

  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or other HR certification
  • Experience supporting safety training coordination and incident tracking
  • Prior experience in a high-growth or lean team environment

$125,000 - $140,000 a year

This describes the ideal candidate; many of us have picked up this expertise along the way. Even if you meet only part of this list, we encourage you to apply!

Benefits

  • Health, Dental & Vision (Gold and Platinum with some providers plans fully covered)
