Position Summary :
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES : Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Thornburg Fitness Center. Manage and direct the university’s Group Ex and Outdoor Adventure recreational programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Reports to Assistant Athletic Director for Recreation & Wellness
SUPERVISION EXERCISED : Supervises student personnel assigned to the area.
TOUR OF DUTY : This is a 12-month, exempt, APA unit position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
Monday-Friday 12 : 00pm-8 : 00pm. Leading Outdoor Adventure trips will mainly occur on weekends requiring at least 2-4 weekends per semester depending on program needs.
(Some evening and weekend hours will be required.)

Essential Duties :
- Develop a comprehensive Group Exercise Program including training, hiring and supervising student instructors and producing schedules and marketing strategies.
- Assist in the management of the Thornburg Fitness Center housed in the Tinsley Center.
- Hire, train, supervise and evaluate professional and / or student staff for all areas of responsibility.
- Assist the Office of Equal Opportunity / Title IX Coordinator office as a responsible employee with regard to incidents of sexual or gender-based harm or discrimination.
- Specify, order, supervise installation and maintain all Thornburg Fitness Center machines and fitness equipment and / or supplies and equipment for Group Exercise classes.
- Create, implement, and monitor strength training / fitness programs for Fitness Center users when possible.
- Supervise and evaluate Graduate Assistant for Thornburg Fitness Center / Group Exercise / Outdoor Adventure.
- Plan, promote and lead 2-4 Outdoor Adventure programs each semester. Programs may include but not be limited to Skydiving, Indoor Climbing, White Water Rafting, Paintball, Sea Kayaking, Day Hikes, Mountain Biking, Tree Top Adventures.
- Recommend equipment and supply purchases for areas of responsibility.
- Assist in the management of the user access system at the entrance to the Fitness Center in conjunction with the Information Technology office.
- Develop and maintain a budget for all areas of responsibility.
- Develop publicity, marketing and programming for all areas of responsibility.
- Furnish written reports on facility usage, injuries, etc. as needed to the Assistant Athletics Director for Recreational Facilities and Programs.
- Plan and implement assessment efforts that inform data driven decision making for the programs, services and activities within your core duties.
- Develop and implement intentional programs, services and activities within your core duties that will meet the unique needs of all student populations.
- Utilize diversity and social justice practices to promote student success as it relates to your core duties.
