Job Title : Surgical Technologist

Location : Rochester, MI 48307

Assignment Duration : 13 Weeks

Shift : 7 : 00 AM – 7 : 30 PM

Call Requirement :

2–3 weeknight call shifts (7 : 00 PM – 7 : 00 AM) every 6 weeks to support the in-house team. 1-hour response time required.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and the surgical team, the Surgical Technologist assists in preparing and maintaining surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for operative procedures. This role requires strong knowledge of surgical workflows, the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team, and support in patient care activities to ensure safety, comfort, and efficiency in the operating room.

Key Responsibilities

Scrub and assist during a variety of general surgical procedures

Prepare the operating room with appropriate instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies based on the procedure

Ensure all instruments and equipment are functioning properly prior to use and report any issues

Maintain sterile technique and adhere to infection control and safety standards

Anticipate surgeon and team needs during procedures

Assist with patient preparation, positioning, transport, admission, transfer, and discharge from the OR

Provide comfort and support to pre-operative patients while maintaining privacy and dignity

Respond to emergency situations following established protocols

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized operating room environment

Restock rooms, manage supplies, and return equipment to proper storage areas

Demonstrate cost-conscious handling of sterile supplies and surgical instruments

Maintain patient and departmental confidentiality

Participate in ongoing education, department initiatives, audits, and quality improvement activities

Assist leadership with inventory management and par level adjustments

May help train or precept new Surgical Technologists

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience

• ️ 1–2 years of Surgical Technologist experience required
• ️ Experience with orthopedic joint procedures and / or robotic surgery required
• ️ Ability to lift and move patients safely
• ️ Ability to push, pull, and lift case carts, instrument trays, and equipment
• ️ Comfortable working in a clinical environment with potential exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and high-acuity situations
• ️ Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Education

Required :

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred :

Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program

Certifications

Required :

BLS Certification (must be current or obtained within one month of start date)
