The City of Hampton is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join us as Public Safety Dispatcher Trainees. This entry-level position offers hands-on training in answering 911 emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching the appropriate emergency responders, and learning the vital skills needed to protect and serve. Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a standard high school course of study or the GED.
- Ability to pass a standard critical testing procedure; must successfully complete the City of Hampton Public Safety Telecommunications Trainee program to include Call Taker, Fire and Police Telecommunications.
- Will be required to successfully complete a Police Department background investigation to include a polygraph examination and pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
- Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
- Must be able to successfully obtain an EMD / CPR certification within a specified length of time in accordance with internal guidelines and a VCIN certification within 6 months of employment.

I understand that this position requires the ability to respond calmly and professionally in a high stress situation.

I understand that duties may be performed at the Public Safety or City Hall Communication Center which operates on a 24-hour basis.

This position requires shift work to include nights, weekends, holidays and extended shifts as required working in a public safety environment which operates on a 24 hour / 7 day a week basis. Are you willing to accept work during these times?
