The Opportunity

This position is a remote opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. As a global leader in diabetes care, Abbott is constantly working to deliver the highest quality products and unwavering support to our customers. Consistent and accurate glucose monitoring is the foundation of any diabetes management plan, so we’re committed to continuous improvement in the way patients and professionals measure, track and analyze glucose levels.

As a Senior Medical Science Liaison, you will be responsible for driving high impact medical and scientific engagement in support of Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC). This field based role strengthens ADC’s scientific leadership by delivering advanced scientific exchange, executing strategic territory planning, and generating measurable impacts and outcomes that influence Medical Affairs strategy. Senior MSLs fulfill all core MSL duties while also leading complex initiatives, mentoring colleagues, shaping evidence generation priorities, and ensuring high quality insight generation that measurably advances ADC’s strategic objectives. This is a field based opportunity.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide national and regional scientific leadership by executing high impact initiatives with leading academic centers, clinical systems, and diabetes networks, resulting in measurable outcomes, evidence opportunities, and medical strategy execution.
  • Demonstrate expert level regional and national territory planning, including a deep understanding of clinical trends, system priorities, emerging influencers, and unmet needs.
  • Serve as a senior scientific expert and mentor, coaching MSL colleagues in advanced scientific exchange, territory strategy, KOL development, documentation, and insight quality—resulting in stronger team capability and measurable improvements in field execution.
  • Lead or co lead high impact Medical Affairs projects, such as scientific training, publication planning, clinical research support, or process improvement, ensuring each initiative delivers defined outcomes and clear contributions to ADC objectives.
  • Provide strategic medical leadership at scientific congresses, leading Medical Affairs execution, managing field deployment, presenting scientific data and producing post meeting reports that translate into actionable outcomes and strategic next steps.
  • Act as a subject matter expert with comprehensive scientific knowledge, contributing to the development and refinement of scientific materials and ensuring consistent, high quality scientific communication across the organization.
  • Support and mentor ADC Fellows, ensuring structured learning, co-presentation opportunities, and progression toward measurable competency outcomes.
  • Establish and maintain high impact scientific relationships with key thought leaders and external experts that measurably strengthen ADC’s scientific credibility and influence.
  • Develop and execute a robust, compliant territory engagement plan that aligns with regional scientific needs and ADC priorities, demonstrating consistent delivery of measurable outcomes tied to Medical Affairs goals.
  • Conduct high level scientific exchange with healthcare providers, managed care stakeholders, and advocacy groups, ensuring the information provided improves clinical understanding and leads to concrete educational or scientific outcomes.
  • Deliver expert level scientific presentations tailored to audience needs, demonstrating mastery of therapeutic area content and resulting in improved scientific comprehension and actionable follow up.
  • Capture, synthesize, and communicate high value field insights that directly influence strategic planning, evidence generation priorities, and cross functional alignment; ensure insights result in clear, documented impacts to organizational strategy.
  • Represent ADC at scientific congresses, translating scientific interactions and emerging data into actionable insights and measurable outcomes that support strategy refinement and execution.
  • Collaborate cross functionally while maintaining Medical Affairs independence, ensuring scientific accuracy and contributing to measurable improvements in cross functional readiness and execution.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities in a timely and compliant manner, including documentation, reporting, insights, and training—all contributing to high quality field operations and measurable compliance outcomes.

Experience You’ll Bring

Required

  • Terminal degree required: PhD, DNP, MD/DO, PharmD, or DMSc.
  • Minimum 4 years of Medical Affairs experience in pharmaceutical, medical device or biotech industries with demonstrated excellence in MSL competencies and a track record of delivering measurable strategic, scientific, and operational outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills with a results and outcomes oriented mindset.
  • Ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, actionable insights that create measurable impact.
  • Commitment to compliance, scientific integrity, documentation excellence, and sustained scientific credibility.
  • Contributes to a cohesive and high performing team culture with measurable positive impact.
  • Deep, authoritative understanding of therapeutic area science.
  • Strong ability to interpret and communicate complex clinical data clearly.
