Foundations and Corporate Relations Officer

In support of the mission of the University, the Foundation and Corporate Relations Officer identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards relationships with corporations, corporate foundations, and private foundations.

Basic Purpose:

This position provides expertise to advance Assumption's strategic priorities by:

  • Researching and identifying sources of support;
  • Proactively seeking opportunities to generate new proposals aligned with corporate and foundation guidelines and interests;
  • Maintaining communication with corporate and foundation donors and prospects, as well as with appropriate University faculty and staff.

The successful candidate will have a positive, can-do attitude and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. She/he needs to be able to juggle a wide-variety of tasks and projects simultaneously, make decisions independently, as appropriate, and always position Advancement and Assumption in the best way possible. She/he should have a deep understanding of philanthropy and enjoy working with a wide variety of personalities and work styles.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop highly competitive proposals, including budgets, for corporate and foundation prospects, and leverage diverse corporate and foundation goals/preferences in conjunction with Assumption University goals. In addition, this position will work with Development staff on developing proposals for individuals on occasion.
  • Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions in coordination with appropriate faculty & staff.
  • Works with UA staff, Deans and faculty to create opportunities to build awareness among corporate and foundation constituencies in order to build and significantly expand positive fund-raising relationships.
  • Helps coordinate stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospects and donors. Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities.
  • Support the Vice President and Senior Associate Vice President of University Advancement in the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate and foundation relationships by helping coordinate activities related to obtaining corporate and foundation monetary support.
  • In conjunction with supervisor, develop metrics around engagement, fundraising targets and database maintenance.
  • By engaging with campus partners, develop and maintain a working knowledge of Assumption University's educational and strategic programs to effectively articulate the institution's priorities. Develop and implement strategies for annual and multi-year plans to retain and increase giving from portfolio, utilizing appropriate goals and timetables for solicitation.
  • Participate in execution of events and programs in support of Development activities and alumni/parent events. This includes on- and off-campus functions.

Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University as well as show an understanding of and a respect for the Catholic and Assumptionist identity of Assumption University.
  • Five years of Advancement/Fund-raising experience in higher education or related field
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills to develop grant proposals, professional reports, and correspondence.
  • Demonstrate ability in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development.
  • Experience with public grants is a plus.
  • Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors and interact via telephone with institutional representatives.
  • Demonstrate ability to support a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrate record of success in generating significant commitments from corporations and foundations.
  • Conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare reports and other materials
  • Exercise good judgement, to demonstrate and understanding of ethics related to development activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Adjust priorities as necessary, independently as well as in conference with supervisor
  • Foster effective working relationships within a team environment, leading by example
  • Apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Scope:

Interacts with the President's Office, University Deans, administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, parents, donors, and friends of the University.
