Job Summary
RSC campus police is seeking a short term Public Safety Assistant who provides security, safety and maintains order on campus property while at a fixed security post or roving security patrol on foot. A Public Safety Assistant is a non-law enforcement position that will provide support to staff, students, faculty and visitors at Maricopa Community Colleges District while encouraging enforcement of MCCCD Administrative Rules and Regulations.
Essential Functions
80% - Conducts security at a stationary security post as well as foot patrol
20% - Responds to any request for public security assistance and will “observe and report” security matters to campus law enforcement. Provides written documentation for significant security-related issues and be identified as the point of contact for law enforcement
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma orGED.
Special Requirements
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver’s License.
Must successfully pass comprehensive background check and may be required to submit to periodic comprehensive background checks.
Desired Qualifications
A. Experience in security or law enforcement
B. Previous experience working safety/security in an educational institution
C. College education, or credits towards conferred degree
D. Customer service work or related experience
E. Experience with using computer software or two-way portable radios
Special Working Conditions
Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:

Motor Vehicle Driving Requirements
Employees of the Maricopa County Community College District who drive district-owned vehicles must complete two requirements, as per Administrative Regulation
- They must take and pass an online defensive driving training course (link is listed below under procedures)
- They must submit to an inquiry by a certified Public Safety police officer into their Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Driving History that shows a satisfactory driving record by completing the Motor Vehicle Record and Driving History Release Form
Once both requirements are met, the employee will be authorized to drive district vehicles. Subsequent MVR reviews will be conducted annually by Public Safety to ensure a satisfactory driving record. Employees must successfully complete the online defensive driving course every three years.
