Arcata Associates is a technical services company supporting our nation's defense and maintaining our country's leadership in science, aeronautics, and space. Our greatest strength is our people. Together, the hard work of our staff and team members supports critical operations that make a difference and advance human achievement. The U.S. Air Force (USAF) and Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC) has a requirement for operations and maintenance (O&M) of complex Threat RF Emitter Systems, support equipment, system spare parts, special tools, test equipment, and depot level documentation under the Alaskan Range Combat Training Integrated Comm and Support (ARCTICS) contract. The JPARC can field and operate systems to represent realistic Threat capabilities for Red Flag Alaska exercises based at Eielson Air Force Base located near Fairbanks, Alaska, and similar events with the USAF.

Location: Fairbanks, AK

Department: Alaska Range Combat Training Integrated Communications and Support (ARCTICS) Contract

Overview:

The Electronics Maintenance Technician III (Radar Tech III) supports the maintenance, repair, and operation of assigned threat RF emitter systems under the ARCTICS contract. The position ensures operational readiness by performing routine tasks, following technical orders (TOs), manuals, schematics, diagrams and adhering to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines. While working under little to no supervision, a Tech III plays a vital role in supporting Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC) training missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with lower-level Technicians to troubleshoot and diagnose system failures.
  • Help train lower-level Technicians to understand and apply electronic principles and RF concepts.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including periodic, scheduled, unscheduled, and preventative checks, following TOs and OEM documentation.
  • Work with both high power and low power RF circuits including Klystrons, Travelling Wave Tubes, Magnetrons and Receivers.
  • Daily work involving reading, interpreting and writing of schematics, diagrams, specifications, manuals and other technical documents.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting electronic failures to the component level, desolder/solder, and replace faulty components.
  • Use electronic test instruments such as digital multi-meters, oscilloscopes, signal generators, vector network analyzers and spectrum analyzers to verify system functionality.
  • Operate assigned radar systems and prepare and equipment for scheduled training events, ensuring threat-faithful performance during JPARC operations.
  • Track, manage, and replenish spares inventory to ensure system readiness.
  • Prepare and submit reports, including Proposed Spare Parts Lists and Inventory/Utilization Data.
  • Work close with lower-level technicians and support Engineering efforts.
  • Work with RF and Ethernet based network communication systems and data links.
  • Proficient with the handling and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
  • Able to travel by truck, snow mobile and/or helicopter to remote locations for scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Associates of Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical training in electronics/RF theory and application.
  • Four plus years of experience in electronic system maintenance or repair.
  • Familiarity with open loop and closed loop transmitters/Radar or similar systems preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in general electronics.
  • Proficiency in using electronic test equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, signal generators and spectrum analyzers.
  • Ability to follow Air Force TOs and OEM documentation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to teach and work with lower-level Technicians, with candor and respect.
  • Eligible for DoD security clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and travel to support range operations.
  • Able to work outside in extreme cold weather conditions with deep snow and on uneven or rocky terrain.

This position is essential in maintaining and operating advanced threat systems to ensure successful JPARC training missions.

Additional Requirements:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Review of security clearance eligibility requirements is strongly recommended prior to applying for the position.
