REQUIRED SKILLS: (Need Majority; 2+ Years)

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:
Under the general supervision of the DNR Radio Specialist, this position provides specialized technical and comprehensive support, consultation, and training services for Department staff on P25 and analog conventional radio systems owned and operated by the DNR. The primary responsibility is to support, configure, maintain, and install radio systems and encompassing technologies.
This position assists in developing, recommending, and implementing standards for radio systems within multiple DNR divisions. It helps manage radio systems including repeaters, handheld radios, mobile radios, vehicle repeaters, base stations, and all ancillary technologies. Duties include monitoring/responding to help tickets, annual maintenance, programming, installing radios in vehicles and offices, and general radio fleet maintenance.
This position will work closely with DNR Radio Program staff including specialists in inventory, frequency, towers, and system administration. It will support radio needs for wildfire suppression, prescribed burning, public safety, and administrative operations. This is a statewide asset position that requires frequent travel, including overnight stays, and hands-on field work.
The Radio Program supports:
- Up to 4000 users across 3 DNR divisions
- ~100 DNR offices
- ~1500 handheld radios, 20 aviation radios, and ~750 mobile/vehicle radios
- ~60 towers and 158 repeaters across 120 sites
This role also includes coordinating with DOA Facilities Management and external vendors and may involve directing vendor work in the field.
Other notables:
- Equipment -- Technicians will utilize tools including multimeters, service monitors, antenna analyzers, power meters, and other radio test equipment. The technician may assist in programming, firmware updates, and hardware installations of mobile and base radios.
· Preferred locations: Green Bay, Black River Falls, Tomahawk – but can be flexible to find the right candidate.
· Position is classified as a "statewide asset" – the contractor may be deployed anywhere in WI to support radio needs.
· Work schedule: 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday
· Three positions available.
· Contract Extensions Possible: Contract runs through 06/30/2026, with potential for extension based on fiscal year cycles.
