Utilities Operator

A Utilities Operator specializing in wastewater is an integral part of the Public Works Department, ensuring effective wastewater treatment operations and maintenance. This position will monitor, inspect, and maintain equipment, including pumps and filters, analyze samples for quality, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. The primary purpose of this role is to protect public health and the environment by supporting effective wastewater treatment and preventing disease transmission and environmental degradation.

New Hire Salary range: $22.76 - $26.25

Salary range: $22.76- $31.86

This is the second level in a four level Maintenance and Operations - Utilities classification series devoted to performing one of the following primary functions: (1) operating a wastewater treatment plant; or (2) maintaining water production and distribution systems and the wastewater collection system; or (3) performing sampling and laboratory testing; evaluating results and preparing analytical reports to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations; or (4) maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing plant equipment. This classification level has three competency ranks.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and 1 year of related experience in treatment, collection, production, or distribution operations, or related fields, or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

Arizona Class D Driver's License. Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Wastewater Treatment Grade 1 certification within 12 months of appointment.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
