Job description
Job Title: Healthcare Specialist
Job Description

This Healthcare Specialist role supports a high-volume, multi-specialty medical clinic by providing both front and back office assistance. You will process a large volume of prescriptions, coordinate patient orders with providers, pharmacies, and laboratories, and assist with rooming patients and direct patient care. The position requires strong professionalism, excellent customer service, and flexibility to float between duties and, as needed, between clinic locations. You will work extensively with an EMR system, support telehealth appointments, and collaborate daily with physicians in a traditional, professional medical office setting.

Responsibilities

  • Float between front and back office functions to support daily clinic operations.
  • Run and order prescriptions on behalf of providers, processing approximately 300–400 prescriptions per day.
  • Order laboratory tests for patients based on provider instructions and coordinate with laboratories for patient orders.
  • Work closely with patients, providers, pharmacies, and laboratories to ensure accurate and timely completion of patient orders.
  • Assist with rooming a high volume of patients each day, including obtaining vitals and preparing patients for physician visits.
  • Provide direct patient care within the scope of a Medical Assistant, including tasks such as taking manual blood pressure and performing ear lavage.
  • Support physicians on a daily basis in a busy, multi-specialty medical clinic environment.
  • Help facilitate and guide patients through telehealth appointments, using strong technology and video conferencing skills.
  • Use the EMR system (E Clinical Works) to document patient information, manage orders, and support clinical workflows.
  • Maintain and display a high level of professionalism and strong customer service throughout the day in all patient and team interactions.
  • Communicate effectively with a geriatric patient community, adapting communication style to patient needs.
  • Demonstrate flexibility around job duties and functions, taking on additional tasks as clinic needs evolve.
  • Provide strong phone etiquette when communicating with patients, providers, pharmacies, and labs.
  • Accurately fill prescription requests and ensure all information is complete and correct.
  • Occasionally float to and support an additional clinic site in Huntington Beach as needed.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of recent Medical Assistant experience.
  • Medical Assistant Certificate (required).
  • BLS and/or CPR certification (required).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Medication knowledge or pharmacy knowledge.
  • Experience working with an EMR system, specifically E Clinical Works.
  • Strong computer skills and comfort with technology.
  • Strong video conferencing skills to support telehealth appointments.
  • Strong phone etiquette for high-volume patient and provider communication.
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, providers, pharmacies, and laboratories, including experience working with geriatric patients.
  • High level of attention to detail in processing prescriptions and patient orders.
  • Ability to fill prescription requests accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform manual blood pressure measurements.
  • Ability to perform ear lavage.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and strong customer service skills in a medical office setting.
  • Flexibility to handle changing job duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a high-volume medical clinic setting, including Pediatrics, Urgent Care, Adult Care, and Radiology.
  • Experience supporting multiple physicians in a single clinic (supporting approximately 17 doctors).
  • Comfort working in a clinic that can see 250+ patients per day.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a tight-knit, family-oriented team.
  • Interest in gaining exposure to a multi-specialty medical group environment.
  • Detail-oriented approach to patient care, documentation, and order processing.
Work Environment

You will work in a very professional, traditional medical office setting within a high-volume, multi-specialty clinic that includes Pediatrics, Urgent Care, Adult Care, and Radiology. The clinic supports approximately 17 doctors and can see more than 250 patients per day, creating a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You will use the E Clinical Works EMR system, standard clinical equipment for vitals, and technology platforms for video conferencing and telehealth appointments. The culture is family-oriented, with a tight-knit and welcoming team that values collaboration and support. The role may occasionally require floating to a nearby Huntington Beach site. The clinic is located within one mile of several restaurants and amenities, offering convenient options for breaks and meals.
