Elementary Catholic School Teacher: Fostering Minds and Faith
A teacher in a Catholic elementary school plays a vital role in shaping young minds and hearts. This position goes beyond core academics, integrating faith and the mission and values of the Catholic church into a nurturing learning environment. Here's a typical breakdown of the responsibilities:
Academic Instruction:
Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with the curriculum (NYS Next Generation Learning Standards and diocesan Religious Education standards).
Foster a love of learning in core subjects like reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies.
Implement differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
Create a stimulating classroom environment that promotes active participation and critical thinking.
Regularly assess student progress through various assessments, assignments, and observations to monitor growth and adapt instruction accordingly.
Catholic Faith Formation:
Integrate Catholic teachings and values into daily lessons and classroom activities.
Lead students in prayer, participate in school liturgies, and provide age-appropriate religious instruction.
Foster a Christ-centered environment that encourages spiritual growth and moral development.
Classroom Management and Student Development:
Establish clear expectations and positive classroom management strategies to maximize learning time.
Promote a sense of community and respect in the classroom.
Nurture students' social and emotional development, fostering good character and problem-solving skills.
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs.
Collaboration and Professional Growth:
Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and administration to develop and implement effective instructional practices.

Additional Responsibilities:

Qualifications:
Master's degree in Elementary Education or a related field
Valid NYS teaching certification
Strong understanding of the Catholic faith and a commitment to its teachings.
Be a practicing Catholic.
Experience teaching elementary school is a plus.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
Passion for fostering a love of learning in young children.
