About the Opportunity

Join Marquee as a Physician in a Correctional Facility, providing high-quality medical care to one of the most underserved populations in the county. You will work in a challenging and rewarding environment, delivering both urgent and chronic care to inmates in Orange County’s five correctional facilities. This role also includes oversight of Nurse Practitioners and opportunities to make a meaningful impact on community health.

About the Program

Correctional Facility provides comprehensive medical, dental, nursing, infection control, health education, and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care for all adult inmates. Care is provided onsite in correctional facilities and through contracted hospitals for inpatient or specialty care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary care provider for incarcerated adults, including women’s health and prenatal care for OB patients

  • Perform urgent and chronic care services, including procedures such as skin biopsies, suturing, ingrown nail removal, incision and drainage, pap smears, and more

  • Conduct thorough physical exams and order appropriate diagnostic tests

  • Provide clinical supervision and oversight to four Nurse Practitioners

  • Collaborate with nursing, dental, and mental health teams, as well as Orange County Sheriff’s Department staff

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in the electronic health record system (EHR)

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have 1+ years of experience in triage, urgent care, mental health, or correctional medicine, and will demonstrate:

Clinical Excellence:

  • Expertise in diagnosis, treatment, and disease management

  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and correctional health policies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHR systems

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Experience directing and supporting clinical staff

  • Commitment to training and mentoring team members

Adaptability & Resilience:

  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, unpredictable environment

  • Compassion and professionalism when caring for incarcerated patients

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to de-escalate difficult situations and foster cooperation among diverse teams

Special Requirements

  • No felony convictions; must successfully pass an extensive background check (may include polygraph)

  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

  • U.S. equivalency evaluation required for foreign degrees
