The primary purpose of the Spanish Medical Interpreter / Translator is to provide interpretation and translation services to all institutional departments involved in patient care. In this regard, the Spanish Medical Interpreter / Translator acts as part of the appropriate team within the hospital, and makes communication possible across language barriers while maintaining patient confidentiality.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a foreign language or related field with at least two years of medical interpretation experience and CHI certified from CCHI. Candidate will also have experience in healthcare interpreting, strong medical terminology skills, outgoing personality with a positive attitude.
Function- Provides oral and written translation of various patient care-related material.
Scope- Impacts translation services provided to all institutional departments.
Essential Job Functions- Interprets and translates consults, consents, protocol information, educational presentations, medical instructions and communication of test results for patients, medical staff and support services. Assists patients in completing clinic questionnaires. Works with medical staff to interpret protocol consents and for follow-up of treatment diary results. Facilitates solutions for patient problems. Informs staff about cultural differences and prepares cultural information presentations as requested. Acts as administrator of protocol consent database. Mentors new interpreters and ensures that all training is completed. Responsible for continuous education / training presentations. Contributes to interpreter selection and evaluation process. Performs on-call translation duties requiring immediate response to electronic paging.

REQUIREMENTS
Education
Required : Bachelor's degree in a foreign language or related field.
Experience
Required : One year of medical interpretation in a clinical setting or related experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of related experience on a one to one basis.
Licensure / Certification
Preferred : CHI certification from CCHI.
