General Description :

The successful candidate will provide software development to support the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in the ongoing modernization of the Defense Retired & Annuitant Pay System (DRAS-M). This role supports the agile development and deployment of secure cloud-hosted microservices in support of the modernization of DFASs legacy financial systems delivering real-time and batch processing capabilities for millions of military retirees and annuitants.

Duties and responsibilities :

The successful candidate will contribute to the design development testing and deployment of software components that align with DRAS-M modernization goals; write clean efficient and secure code in Java and PL / SQL that adheres to Zero Trust Architecture principles and DoD development standards; participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning daily standups retrospectives and backlog refinement sessions; and collaborate with product owners scrum masters testers and security engineers to ensure timely quality delivery of production-ready software.

Specialized Knowledge :

• Design develop and maintain Java-based microservices using Spring Boot framework
• Implement secure coding practices following OWASP guidelines and NIST SP 800-218 secure software development practices
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including database design and orchestration teams to implement functional modules
• Participate in code reviews unit testing integration testing and security testing processes
• Integrate with CI / CD pipelines using GitLab and Jenkins for automated deployment
• Develop and consume RESTful APIs in a service-oriented architecture environment
• Work within Zero Trust environment using Identity Credential and Access Management (ICAM) systems
• Other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills :

Proficiency in Java development with strong object-oriented programming skills

Strong experience with Spring Boot framework

Experience with Git-based version control systems

Experience with JUnit for unit testing

Exposure to cloud environments especially Microsoft Azure

Preferred Qualifications :

Education :

Bachelors degree in computer Software Engineering Information Technology or related field .

Professional Certifications :

None required.

Clearance :

Public Trust / IT II Security clearance eligibility.

Experience :

5 years in software development with focus on enterprise applications.

U.S. Citizen or Similar :

Must be a U.S. Citizen

Skills and Abilities :

Experience in government or defense contractor environments preferred.

Must be a self-starter with strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities for complex software challenges; excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively in Agile teams; ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including government stakeholders; self-motivated with strong time management skills for sprint-based deliverables; adaptability to changing priorities and evolving government requirements; and detail-oriented approach to code quality and security compliance.

Working conditions including location :

Fully remote.

Client duty hours are Monday through Friday.
