Tutoring Assistant
Provides tutoring assistance with Math, English, Science, and other disciplines taught at Ivy Tech Community College. This is a temporary position (by semester).
Major Responsibilities:
- Meet with students in individual, shared, and group tutoring format to enhance, support, and clarify concepts discussed in class lectures, reading, and handouts, for the subject(s) for which you were hired
- Provide students guidance in the acquisition and application of study skills methods
- Serve as a link to other college resources
- Complete all paperwork and recordkeeping as requested by the supervisor (time cards, tutoring logs, evaluations, etc.)
- Participate in initial and ongoing training programs as required
- Consult with faculty to help students meet course learning objectives
- Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views
- Demonstrate strong customer service and/or student advocacy skills through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, and strong problem solving
- Dress and behave in a professional manner (as outlined in the Tutor Training Manual)
- Maintain the confidentiality of tutoring sessions
- This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned. All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
Education, Experience and Other Requirements:
Be a current student who has completed at least one semester at Ivy Tech OR have at least one semester experience as a tutor or faculty member (examples: retired high school teacher, recent college graduate). If current student, will need to submit a FAFSA and visit Campus Financial Aid department to determine Federal Work-Study employment eligibility status. If currently a student, must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the course you will tutor. Must be able to communicate well orally and work well with diverse student populations. Have no campus disciplinary record. Must complete eight hours of basic training and participate in subsequent regular training sessions.
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
