Description
Participate as a full-time Advanced Practice Provider in the Division of Endocrinology and in departmental and medical school activities. This position primarily participates in development and implementation of an outpatient diabetes management service for Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine including patient care, clinical teaching, and research components.
Examples of Duties
Clinical Service 100%
A. Assist in the delivery of medical services to patients seen in the clinic, seen for consultation or scheduled for procedures under medical direction and supervision of full-time collaborating physician(s).
B. Manage individual patient care including :
- Perform health status assessment by obtaining medical history and performing physical examination
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies.
- Develop and implement treatment plan
- Perform other diagnostic, therapeutic or corrective measures as necessary.
C. Schedule patients for procedures and follow-up patients after procedure.
D. Provide patient education and counseling to patients and their families.
E. Communicate with the physicians, providing a summary of the clinical data and discussing further evaluation and therapy patients as needed.
F. Communicate with referring physicians regarding patient care issues after consultations and procedures.
G. Maintain complete and accurate records of all care provided.
H. Submit billing information.
I. Assist in quality assurance audits and responses.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
A. Nurse Practitioner licensed in the State of Illinois
B. Passage of the national certifying exam
C. Minimum 2 years clinical experience required
D. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
Desired Qualifications
A. Endocrinology experience preferred
B. Clinical experience preferred
C. Research experience / interest preferred
