Summary: The CVOR Surgical Technologist supports cardiovascular surgical procedures by assisting the surgical team under the direction of the surgeon. This role involves preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly, and anticipating the needs of the team to promote patient safety and efficient surgical workflow. Key Responsibilities: Prepare and organize the operating room in advance of cardiovascular procedures Ensure surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly stocked, inspected, and ready for use Assist with transporting patients to and from the operating room as needed Work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and other team members to support coordinated care Anticipate procedural needs and pass instruments efficiently to maintain workflow Handle surgical specimens carefully and document them according to established protocols Partner with the healthcare team to ensure smooth and efficient surgical operations Maintain a sterile environment by properly cleaning, sterilizing, and handling instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control standards Follow surgical preference cards to meet specific surgeon and procedure requirements Maintain knowledge and competency in cardiovascular and cardiothoracic procedures, including open and closed heart surgeries Perform additional responsibilities within scope of practice as assigned Adhere to all facility safety policies, infection prevention guidelines, and regulatory requirements Required Skills and Qualifications: Strong critical thinking abilities, commitment to service excellence, and effective communication skills Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English Ability to understand written instructions, follow verbal directions, and utilize basic computer systems Physical capability to stand or remain stationary for extended periods, move throughout the operating room, and lift or handle equipment weighing 50–100 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and bending Ability to work effectively with a diverse team while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude Fine motor skills and manual dexterity necessary for handling instruments and assisting during procedures Capacity to manage fast-paced, high-pressure situations while meeting deadlines Ability to work independently or with limited supervision when needed Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and maintain attention to detail Adequate visual acuity and communication skills to safely perform job duties
