Job Description
The Designer/Drafter on the New Product Development team plays a key role in transforming initial concepts into fully realized product designs. You will work closely with engineers and cross-functional partners to take new products from idea through prototype, pilot, and into production. You create accurate, well-organized 2D and 3D models and documentation that align with industry standards and internal requirements, directly influencing product performance, manufacturability, cost, and overall project success.
Responsibilities Include
- Partner with the Lead Project Engineer and team members to turn product requirements into prototype and pilot designs
- Utilize 3D CAD software (such as PTC Creo) to develop digital models that support faster development cycles
- Create detailed 3D models and drawings based on concepts, sketches, or legacy designs, with a focus on manufacturability
- Design sheet metal components using 2D and 3D tools while ensuring proper tolerances are achieved
- Recommend efficient assembly and fabrication methods, optimizing designs for cost and production feasibility
- Support technical and design reviews by presenting or assisting in the presentation of design models, ensuring alignment with internal processes
- Prepare complete documentation packages for release to manufacturing, including drawings, bills of materials, and machine files
Skills & Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience developing and creating new products, preferably in the electro-mechanical or electrical-mechanical product space.
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, ideally including experience with PTC Creo.
- Hands-on experience with both 2D and 3D modeling software for product design and documentation.
- Solid understanding of mechanical design principles and new product development processes.
- Strong understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) preparation, structure, and ongoing management.
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering sketches, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes relevant to mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
- Experience designing sheet metal components with appropriate tolerances and manufacturability in mind.
- Ability to develop digital models that support rapid prototyping, pilot builds, and production release.
- Attention to detail and commitment to creating accurate, well-organized engineering documentation.
