Green Energy Startup - New York, NY
Full Time / Direct Hire
The Hired Guns are seeking an experienced Visual Designer who’s super-solid in marketing, branding, and UX design to help make the world a greener place through the power of technology.
Nitty Gritty
This company has the answer to one of the most glaring problems in our current energy infrastructure. Its mission is to greenify a daily activity with the highest of high-tech solutions. And it’s already got seed money and a big headstart. What it doesn’t have is a full-time Visual Designer. The team is small (you will be employee #11), the work is important, and the momentum is increasing, so working onsite in NYC for agile in-person collaboration is a must.
And collaborate you will. You’re designing an ecosystem, beginning with marketing materials but quickly spreading into corporate identity and soon skinning the app, alongside any necessary product development illustration. Animations (both 2D and 3D) will occupy a lot of hours in this role as the company begins to market and post on social media with short video clips showcasing its technology. Then you’ll move on to designing the whole brand system and architecture.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll be designing the look today that becomes iconic tomorrow, while getting in on the ground floor of a potentially colossal company. And you’ll have an outsized say and sway in how the aesthetic develops.
Hired Gun Profile
You’re a Visual Designer who has helped some impressive clients by simplifying, organizing, and beautifying their brands, platforms and products. You love hard work when it’s meaningful, and you believe now is the time to do that hard work for the environment. You never met a design program you didn’t master, especially if it’s part of Adobe Creative Suite or Autodesk. The work will speak for itself, but you’ve got a head start from your background at one of the major design schools like SVA, Pratt, RISD, or the like. Alternatively — and yeah, this is a big pivot — you could come from a computer engineering or similar background to handle the heavy tech needs coming down the line. Either way, you’re past your creative infancy now and ready to apply hard-won wisdom to your still-energetic ideas.
Inside Skinny
Some UX design background is helpful, but you won’t be kicking around a lot of UI projects off the bat (the mobile app is mostly done except for some final touches). Stuff your portfolio with marketing materials experience, but keep some UX samples in your back pocket, including a couple of examples of web dashboard work.
Net-Net
It’s time for your career as a Visual Designer to take a huge step forward into a leadership role at a potentially world-changing company with unbelievable upside.
