Job description

Council-Led Troop Facilitators

Support Girl Scouts of Western Washington's mission by leading Girl Scout troops in partnership with local schools and community organizations throughout our Council region. The position may also co-lead troops alongside new volunteer leaders to support a successful transition to volunteer-led troop experiences. Using provided program resources, Council-Led Troop Facilitators deliver engaging Girl Scouts programming and help expand access and engagement for youth in historically underserved communities, building courage, confidence, and character.

We are currently seeking individuals who live in or within a reasonable driving distance of Everett.

This is a temporary, part-time (up to 19 hours per week), non-exempt role. Work is conducted on-site, so residency within reasonable proximity to the assigned community listed above is required. While the full pay range is $20.76 to $21.50 per hour, this position will start at $20.76 per hour for purposes of internal pay equity. This is a non-benefitted position, with the exception of benefits required by law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • With Council guidance and support, leads school or community partner-based troop meetings.
  • Coordinates and facilitates troop activities, badge work, and outings based on interests of participating youth following provided curriculum and calendar.
  • Supports new volunteer leaders within this program in transitioning to fully leading their own troops, as needed.
  • Fosters a welcoming, inclusive, and empowering environment for all troop members.
  • Builds positive relationships with youth, caregivers, school staff, and community partners.
  • Communicates regularly with caregivers regarding troop activities and updates.
  • Travels between sites for program support, supply pick-up, youth transportation, and coverage needs.
  • Participates in required in-person orientation, onboarding, trainings, meetings, and program events.
  • Follows Girl Scout safety policies, procedures, and program guidelines.

This is a general description of the essential responsibilities of the position and is not inclusive of all job duties; other associated duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and commitment to fostering a work environment that prioritizes diversity, equity, inclusion, racial justice, and belonging.
  • Strong alignment with Girl Scouts of Western Washington's mission and vision.
  • Ability to lead groups of youth through predetermined programming.
  • Ability to work professionally and respectfully with school staff, caregivers, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Well-organized, with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and build positive relationships with youth, caregivers, and community partners.
  • Ability to lead troop opportunities during out-of-school hours, typically between 2:30 6:00 pm on weekdays, with occasional weekend availability.
  • Ability to support the Girl Scouts Beyond Bars program on scheduled Saturdays, as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience Required

  • Must be 18 years of age by employment start date.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with youth.

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Experience in childcare and/or teaching.
  • Experience recruiting and/or leading volunteers.
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking.
  • Experience with nonprofit/community engagement and/or outreach.
  • Experience working within diverse communities and diverse age groups.
  • Multilingual skills a plus.

Other Qualifications

  • Must reside within Washington State and within reasonable driving distance of assigned communities.
  • Valid Washington State driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance, and the ability to fulfill travel requirements throughout the GSWW Council region of Western Washington as necessary.
  • Satisfactory results from criminal background search.
  • Willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership.
  • Must be willing and able to come into a Girl Scouts of Western Washington office or alternative worksite as needed or when requested.
