About the role

Anza is seeking a Director of Process Engineering and Optimization to lead the creation and strategic direction of the Process Engineering and Optimization function. This role will establish the department as a critical internal service organization to other departments within the company. The primary mission is to drive the adoption and implementation of end-to-end process automation and orchestration to ensure repeatability, performance visibility, auditability, and scalability across all aspects of the growing mortgage insurance platform, ensuring alignment with Anza's overarching business goals while maintaining regulatory compliance, operational control, and cost discipline. What you'll do

Strategy and Alignment : Collaborate with senior management to set strategic plans and objectives for process automation and optimization, ensuring tight alignment between process engineering goals and Anza's overall corporate strategy. Direct the activities of the Process Engineering functional area, leading teams to develop new methods and solve complex, undefined issues. Ensure that enterprise process architecture directly supports Anza’s corporate strategy, regulatory obligations, capital discipline, and growth objectives. Lead the resolution of complex, cross-functional, and undefined operational challenges by designing scalable, auditable, and resilient workflow systems.

Department Establishment : Define and build the Process Engineering and Optimization department from the ground up, including its operating model, governance standards, and performance metrics, with a focus on delivering value to internal stakeholders. Recruit, develop, and lead high-performance teams while ensuring resources are deployed effectively to deliver measurable operational, regulatory, and financial value.

Process Orchestration and Automation : Lead the successful adoption and implementation of end-to-end process automation and orchestration initiatives, creatively redesigning and optimizing procedures across all business functions. Ensure automated workflows meet stringent requirements for repeatability, auditability, performance visibility, and scalability.

Control-by-Design & Audit Readiness : Embed control requirements, separation of duties, exception handling, and QC touchpoints into process design. Ensure workflows are defensible under PMIERs, GSE expectations, SOC 2, state insurance regulation, and internal risk governance.

Requirements and Execution : Implement a strong operational mindset and requirements gathering capabilities to effectively translate Anza’s business strategy into actionable process plans and engineering requirements.

Operational Efficiency & Scale Economics : Design productivity models, unit cost benchmarks, straight-through-processing targets, and cycle-time standards. Identify bottleneck drivers and engineer permanent elimination strategies. Serve as the central authority for cross-functional workflow alignment and handoff architecture.

KPIs : Establish enterprise performance reporting tied to automation, throughput, quality, and cost metrics. Qualifications

Minimum Education

BSE in a process design field such as Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical, or Systems Engineering, or BS / BA in Operations Research or Computer Science / IT

Preferred Education

MBA with concentration / specialization in Operations Management, MS in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality / Reliability Engineering or Computer Science.

Minimum Experience

Proven success leading cross-functional transformation initiatives.

Deep hands-on experience with workflow management systems in a corporate environment is a must.

Demonstrated experience building automation-first, technology-embedded operating models.

A strong operational mindset and requirements-gathering capabilities are a must.

Demonstrated mastery of core functional areas (process engineering and automation) and their alignment with the company and competitive environment.

Proven ability to work on complex, undefined issues and translate business strategy into detailed plans.

Experience in a Director or equivalent level role, directing the activities of a functional area or multiple integrated departments.

Leadership experience mentoring team members and fostering a high-performance, customer-centric, innovation-driven culture.

Preferred Experience

10+ years of experience in process engineering, operating model design, business transformation, or operational architecture within regulated financial services, fintech, mortgage banking, or insurance.

Strong understanding of internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory compliance in financial services.

Successfully developed and led a process engineering function within a similar environment.
