This very diversified, very successful, Silicon Valley giant is on the hunt for a NYC-based freelance editor who’d love exploring the future through the medium of high-end branded content. There’ll be some writing (you can save the plum assignments for yourself), but primarily you’ll be managing a string of top-notch writers who are capable of pitching exceptional business / technology story ideas and delivering magazine-quality prose on deadline.

You’ll be the trustworthy number-two of the in-house content chief, handling details and keeping editorial engine running smoothly. You’ll provide the guidance, leadership and editorial direction that will keep your team of freelancers working efficiently — directing workflows, planning the calendar, enforcing deadlines, moving mountains. You know, the usual. And, of course, you’ll be assigning articles, editing copy, and bringing in new writing talent.

Hired Guns Profile

You are a veteran with top media properties on your resume and top talent in your Rolodex. You’ve worked the technology beat in some capacity and have the well-honed set of skills one would expect in a first-class editor : you’re an idea generator, project manager, team coach, language expert. You’re also a self-starter who can work independently — in the firm’s office, at home or on the road. You walk in with a Rolodex of writing talent and are always on the hunt for new blood. And most importantly, you have a fine-tuned sense of what makes a story work, and what is new and appealing to an audience of tech-forward readers.

This isn’t a job for an off-the-shelf marketing writer focused on how-tos and clickbait. This gig is for someone who could comfortably step into a contributing editor role at Wired or Fast Company without any raised eyebrows. And print isn’t your only platform, you’re comfortable working with digital video and social media, as well.
