The ideal candidate will be fluent in HTML and Python and will have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field or at least two years’ experience developing web applications. An understanding of development operations and cloud technologies is also required. Experience working in a fast-paced development environment where managing multiple priorities under pressure is a must. Experience in the newspaper business or another media environment is a plus.

REQUIREMENTS

HTML — must be fluent.

CSS —styling, positioning, selectors and the cascade, responsive design - media queries, familiarity with flex and grid

layouts.

JavaScript — intermediate level JavaScript skills, fluent at applying modern client side JavaScript to solve front end

problems.

Python — able to do OO programming from scratch and able to design and execute CRUD applications / sites using Django

framework.

SQL — must know well enough to write SQL queries.

Networking – error identification by number; debugging; curl and traceroute.

Bash and Linux – basics, SSH, directory structure, package manager, manage processes and jobs.

NGINX or Apache — Basic networking and troubleshooting, familiarity with the linux shell, and ability to configure and

manage webservers like Apache or Nginx.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

CMS— familiarity with content management systems and workflow related to news operations.

SSL and Domain— familiar with SSL and domain configuration.

Authentication — experience with integration of web-based authentication systems.

Finger dexterity is required.

Ability to tolerate limited noise exposure in a datacenter / server environment.
